Insects and Bugs VI

The bugs in the house are getting lesser. Couldn't practice snapping 'em. *sad* Even the garden, not a single ant! Maybe i didn't search hard enough.

I found this aunty in the toilet. I assume it is a female, since it is quite rare to have a male this big!

It was quite difficult to take this one. So many attempts, an yet, only these few turned out fairly okay. The shutter speed was kinda slow, resulting in blurry effects. I was using my Canon PowerShot A530.

The shutter speed would have been worst if i used my dad's. The Canon PowerShot S80 has a slow shutter speed; 1+ seconds per shot, even though it takes less than 10s for 5 shots.

And my last shot. Now, gotta rest my elbows! Ooof!

Mabel says. Quarantine. vs. SAW

Hello all! Feels so good to be able to link myself up with the net once more. Had some unknown problems with the net the pass few days. *shrugs*

Yesterday, enjoyed myself loads! Had a series of fun activities, or rather, did stuffs that i had pleasure in. Went to watch Quarantine in Parade after my two-hour music class (awesome practice!). Watched it with Julian, while SzeWei, who was supposed to join us, couldn't make it due to some last minute emergency work (?).

Anyways, i have always thought Quarantine was a horror movie. That was why i brought along a jacket - i was sure i will be needing it. But to my disappointment, it was just a thriller. My expectations were turned down immediately when the story hits the climax. The movie wasn't really bad, yet not as good as SAW. I have watched SAW 1, all by myself with headphones on and decided that i will never, EVER watch it again ALONE! *shivers* It was nasty, all right! So, compared with Quarantine... I'd prefer SAW.

Probably not all of you out there that has watched Quarantine. I'm sure, most of you would have seen the trailer. It's the reporter, shot through a video camera in night scene mode, being dragged into the dark. Guess what. I didn't find it anywhere in the movie but the ending. Yes, that's right. The trailer WAS the ending. Crappy huh?

The storyline is not bad, except that everybody died/was infected in the end. Bah. On the other hand, SAW has some bones behind the flesh. Even though they have found out the villain behind all the scenes in SAW, and killed him, the game actually has just begun. Interesting huh? You should check out how this insanely genius sick man manipulates others to keep the game going, even after he is DEAD!

Overall, my ratings for Quarantine is 6 out of 10 stars. Credits to the thrilling effect that was marked upon me.

Ps: I wanna watch SAW 2! With someone, and not alone!

Random Shots

It's gonna be all random today.

I was attending a youth meeting one Saturday. Brought my camera along since it the event was games. Thought i could add more photos to my ICC Youths album. But before that, i went round searching for something to feed my camera.

Any idea what's this? It's a cucumber. A tiny, whiny cucumber. When i said tiny, i'm seriously saying that it's tiny!

Look at the size of the seeds! And yes, you can eat this. They said those kiddos in my church has eaten 'em before. Just like that.

Drew this on the side of the road. Messy. Anyways, back to the event of the day. The games mainly involved water and the aim is simple; we all have to get wet. I didn't manage to take any pictures for the first game. Was busy playing. It was girls vs. guys, by the way.

The second game, is a simple one. No water involved. All we gotta do is just eat blind folded.

The girls' team; playing safe. Sze Wei & Sarah

The guys' team; i have no idea what they were trying to do. Instead of feeding, they were throwing the ice-creams at each other. Hmm...

They hadn't had enough even after the game. Julian & Alvin.
Very short game but it was kinda silly, and funny at the same time.

After lunch, we went to JJ together. There, i managed to take more pictures! Hehe.

Home-Cooked Food II

I think i'm gonna gain weight fast during these holidays. Mum has been cooking so much. Not that i cannot say no and ask her to lower down the rates. It's just that, i don't wanna say no! There's no way you can resist a mother's cooking, no way at all!

This was what my mum made! Garlic french bread + sardine spaghetti + chicken soup! Nice right? Let's take a closer look. Hehe.

Garlic bread

I so very love garlic breads. It is crusty and soft at the same time. YUM!

chicken soup

Mum has gotten this chicken soup recipe from Australia. It contains corn, chicken, chicken stock, and some i-don't-know-what-is-that stuffs.

Added to multiply :

And not forgetting the main one, the spaghetti topped with fresh (cooked!) sardines! I think there are tomatoes to it. Wahaha. Do you feel like loving my mum now? hehe

Morning's Trophy

Good morning all! Don't we all love mornings. So cool. Refreshing. And so full of energy. The only thing that'll stop this is rain, making everyone lazying about.

Anyways, i took some pictures when the sun was rising. It's my first time and now i'm gonna show it to you.

The wire was kinda disturbing. Could have been better without it. I felt that it was a little too boring. The birds were too small to play a strong role in the picture. So i did this!

Seems rather imbalance right? Kinda awkward too. aik

Added to multiply :

So i changed the position. How is it now?? Sadly, the flower's a little blur. I didn't realise until i transferred it into the computer.

Floral Snapshots XVII

More floral snapshots again! Also taken from my school. Somehow, these pictures aren't very satisfying; especially shots of the hibiscus.

I just recently realized that compact cameras have problems with the color red. Like in this picture, if i were to brighten it up a bit, there would be too much contrast.

Perhaps it only happens to flowers? I wonder whether a dSLR has this sort of problem.

There was no hope in capturing a nice shot of the hibiscus, that's why i shifted the focus point.

I think this is a lily, a spider lily. If you noticed, it is pink in color - the only one among the whites.

I edited this one to bring out the white lily; through saturation. Toned down the background a bit.

Here are some other pictures that i've taken in school also. I've attempted many times on these but they still didn't turn out right. Hmm...

Initially, there were four birds. Each attempt i take minus a bird. If you zoom in this one, you'll see that the bird's kinda blur. Sigh. I need more practice.

When i held my hand out, they remained still. When i waved, they were also still. But when i drew out my camera, they swam away. What the..... I do need more practice!

By the way, i have just started a flickr account! Will be posting up the link soon!

Dog Stalking Business

I didn't have anything to do. Went out, nothing to snap, until i saw something coming. A stray dog.

Slim? Hehe. A dog doing a cat-walk.

And then it headed to another direction. Hmm...

And back to this side. It was probably as bored as me.

Haih... Ignoring my existence.

And ignoring me the second time. Hmph!

Nevermind about that. I was still bored. Looking back, i saw a bug! And i thought, "Finally! Some macro shots!"

...But i blew it out. Grrr... So blur! Hadn't any mood to continue attempting already. But at the computer, i found this...

I know this is weird. But i can't help it. I was bored.

World Toilet Day

I found out something rather interesting; did you know that today is World Toilet Day??

"19 November was declared 'World Toilet Day' in 2001 by 17 toilet associations around the world. Since then there has been established an annual World Toilet Summit and many other regional conferences. Each toilet association has also engaged in many activities promoting clean toilets in their own respective country.

"Since 2001, World Toilet Day has become a global platform for academics, sanitation experts, toilet designers, environmentalists etc. to share the latest on rural and urban toilets. Thi

"The World Toilet Organisation asks each individual, in their respective country, to request better equality (more facilities for women); more accessibility & special provisions (for the disabled & mothers with babies); clean toilets (for everyone); and more toilets (for the less fortunate)."

I stumbled on this fact when i was reading this month's CLEO magazine; the one and only CLEO that i've bought. I didn't know there was such a thang, really! It reminds me of a game i once played; Toilet Tycoon.

It's a game where you can proof your skill as a leader of the saniterian installations of a whole town! Lol.

Back to the today's celebration. The theme for 2008's WTD: WE DESERVE BETTER, which encompasses 3 "WE"s.
  1. TOILETS: World Toilet Organization has always been trying to make toilet a desirable object to discourage open defecation, and so WTO feels that toilets deserve better social status.

  2. CLEANERS: WTO aims to professionalize the sanitation and restroom industry and toilet cleaners deserve better pay, respect and prospects

  3. 2.5 Billion Toilet-less People: The 2.5 billion toilet-less people around the world deserve better place to defecate --- a toilet

This day is celebrated worldwide to remind people of the seriousness of the situation (imagine not having anyone cleaning the public toilets, or even worst, there're no toilets!) Especially in the rural-urban settings and in less developed countries.

Message from the World Toilet Organization (WTO):
We encourage all of you to participate in this year's celebration. If you have activities planned for the World Toilet Day, do share with us by email at and If you are thinking of activities for the day, still write to us as we can share with you many ideas to make this day special

So now you know a little about it, let's make toilets important and desirable! Haha.

Just to wish all of you Happy World Toilet Day!

Ps: Start to love your toilets today!

Floral Snapshots XVI

I was attending my coy's meeting (girl guides) on a Saturday morning. Was almost bored to death since most of the activities were only suitable for juniors instead of us seniors. I was lucky enough to have my camera with me. What else could i do other than to use it? I wouldn't bare sitting down growing mushrooms.

I was experimenting on angles, not like it's a new thing, but i enjoy doing it. Bending down and going round 360o was perhaps the only thang that kept me awake.

Looks as if it was made out of tissue-like laces.

Yup, i have this at home too. Found in Mum's Flora Babies.

The orange version.

Mum has this one too; Floral Snapshots VII

Today, i have learned a lesson. I should bring my camera wherever i go! There was once when i went to JuEan's aunt's house, i saw this miserable sticking out behind the window facing the back lane. It attracted my attention since it was the only green around! SIGH. Regrets~

Home-Cooked Food

Mum once made chicken rice for dinner. It was most delicious, really! The colors looked nice too. That's why i took some pictures of it. Hehe

There's the rice, cucumbers, pork, chicken...

...and me munching 'em!

It's so delicious that you can't even miss anything behind!

Except for the chicken bones, that is. Yum
Unlike my mother, i'm not the kind of person that can cook as well. Frankly, i can't even cook! Throw me a packet of maggi mee and you'll waste sixty cents (Whatever the price is for a packet)SIGH

I should take some cooking class from mum someday. Now, one last shot from the dish!
