MabelArtWork : Makeover

Dad has finally bought me the Adobe Photoshop CS3. Hadn't really had the chance to explore it yet so i just stick to my old one; Ulead PhotoImpact 11. Explored it a little and discovered some new tools that i hadn't tried before. It's existence was revealed to me only when i was browsing a tutorial on the Adobe Photoshop. Didn't know PhotoImpact had the same sort of tool, but not as efficient as Adobe's.

Kickin' off, i randomly picked a raw picture. Not really my latest snapshot, but oh well, who cares.

This one's taken with the SGH-X820 2.0 megapixel camera. Please pardon the imperfections. The quality isn't as good as the cheapest camera, but is good enough to give a vivid picture. The skin turned out to be yellowishly pale. Even the color of my blouse had drained out.

This picture looked like it has been under the sun for years. Luckily, the reflections on both the eyes seemed to save the picture from going into the waste (i guess?).

It does need some editing to bring out the 'life' in it. Here goes.

Changed the color of my skin to the somewhat fairer sort. A little to pale in my opinion, though. My lips got paler after the change; as if it had merged into the skin. Gave it some touch of color and glistened my eyes a little. As i had always wanted silky black eyes, the glistening seem to have polished it; hiding every brown detail in it. It's as if i wore contact lenses.

Touched up the color of my blouse and gave some life to my pale cheeks after hiding some impurities on the face; as in pimples. "Burnt"(?) my eyelids, that's why it had the eye liner effect.

Had some difficulties on the cheek as one side of the face is darker than the other. Wasn't easy balancing it and avoiding the fake-color-on mode. But i managed it anyways.

Lastly was the background and the frame. And then my signature mabelartwork.

I am quite satisfied with my first successful artwork of a makeover (which i have tried and failed before) and from here i can conclude a few things.
Firstly, the product may not be as good because i am still not skilled enough...?
Secondly, the product may not be as good because makeups are not allies to my face...?

Oh well, i'm glad i finished it. cheers!

Shh... Don't laugh too loud! You might wake her up!

Dish in a bowl : Cheese Spaghetti

Today's dish in my bowl : Cheese Spaghetti.

1. Oregano - giving flavor to my weekends
20'07'08, watched The Dark Knight *official site. It was awesome. Credits to Heath Ledger (RIP), though he freaked me out a lil, but solutes to his act well done as the Joker. *claps*

2. Cheese! - the fats that feeds my lust
'Fatal Chaos : 4th attack' by Ben is finally out! Woohoo! Though i've been restricted to buy only one comic a month, i didn't bother to think twice in breaking it! sorry juean Hehe. Finished the book in a day or so. The strokes were great. The angles. Dimensions. The finess. Overall, iLove his art! Sad to know that he has already left Gempak. sobs.

3. Unleavened dough - it all starts from the beginning
Woodwind is so nice to play. Or rather, to blow? Yes, i have finally got the chance to learn the flute. It wasn't as tough as i thought, only more emphasis on the mouth muscles is needed. Much breath is required also it seems. My first blow gave me the spins, got me dizzy all over. Pooh!

4. Eggs - a little slimy
Almost slipped in being sentimental. Was so tempted to return to the slashing-of-the-heart with poetry; which i have once put a halt to. Didn't know where did all those thoughts came from. It almost feels like it's not from me. Nothing of the bereft sort though. Just some about The Loh. winks .

5. Mushrooms - oh fungus
My days in school are currently nothing but boredom. It's rotting the mushrooms outa me! Nevermind my delight of having no homework, but i do wish to escape from these bores! Oh fungus!!!

6. Sugar and pepper - slight delight and slight spice
Yay! I am so gonna be free this Saturday - no school activity for me. Moreover, no badminton training also. But then, gotta play the piano for sister's meeting that night. Heh. Which means the whole morning will be spent by hitting the keys! Nevermind.

7. Basil - smells good
Wee! Didn't know my big feet could find it's mate in sales. Managed to grab hold of a size10 evening sandle (3inch) and pink heel of the same measure. Got myself a pair of running shoes too. Am so dang glad that my feet aren't the biggest. The salelady said she has seen ladies with size 12 feet!

8. Tomatoes - take that! *smashes*crushes*
It's The Loh. Being currently the main topic of the week, i've put her in the main ingredient of the dish. I know i know, you may just say whatever to what she's doing now but heck, as a fellow student of MC, i do care with what's happening! Nevermind her uneven structures of her body, but what's with the unevenness in her moral values? Does she know that the word 'respect' exists? Oh tomatoes! Why let people taste your sourness when you can be made sweet. Squashes!

9. Olive oil - healthy healthy
Finally finished Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen. Finished it in a week or so - out of six months. Hehe. Borrowed from Steph since February. Slow reader, i am. Plan to wrap it and give her back as a Belated Birthday present (her b'day was only 3days ago). Hoho! Overall the story is great! How very sweet is Mr. Darcy towards Elizabeth Bennet. I could almost imagine it to be a play rolling as i glance through every word. Loves.

Whatsoever, i'm still enjoying my Cheese Spaghetti.

Photo Back.

Yes, it was last year that i boldly took the step of cutting my hair short. And now, after a 12 month period, i do miss it a little.

This was my first edited picture.
Not much length there on my scalp, but well, it was better than being overloaded.

The process of mitosis continued on, having my fringe to play nuisance.
It was beginning to get annoying, actually, not to mention that it made me look like a one-eyed monster.

After trimming off the front, the back ones joined in the race.
No, i didn't snip it off - just binded them all up in one bunch.

Right after PMR, I decided to do myself as act of justice; by trimming my hair off - front and back.

Got pretty active after that.
Nothing much that's a bothering my face.
No tying needed. Less shampoo. Fast drying.
Leisure! Bien!

But my easy-to-handle hair didn't stay long.
It bid me goodbye as it was invaded by a longer species.
Heat. Sweat. More shampoo.
Ahh. All the usual routines were back!

This year, decided not to put a death sentence anymore. Just some layering here and there, and did something different also. I've requested to have half of my hair to be short, while the other half; long. Was most delighted.

This didn't stop me from tying it. Thank goodness.

For now, maybe i'll try having long hair and see how it goes. Adieu, see how long can it go.

MabelArtWork : Express

Hmm... Let's see. It has been almost two months since i last edited a picture. Thought of stopping til the end of the year until dad, after he discovered my ambition, kinda like urge me to do more (indirectly). Heh. So i guess my skills now kinda rot a lil, bringing down my performance rate.
A reason why i halted doing this was either because i was lazy to take pictures, or my inspiration/ideas ran dry. Whatever it is, i'm just glad that my familiarity of the digital brushes are still as fresh.

I actually intended to give out a critical / negative message in this picture, like :
  • KEEP OFF - your lies disgust me.
  • TAKE BACK - your subtleties are not amusing.
  • STAY OUT - you do not know me.
But then i terminated those ideas, for it may give a wrong reflection of myself. I had a friend who actually thought i am having a boyfriend after i posted a certain artwork of mind. Lol.
See how loud art speaks.

Anyways, coming back to the picture, i'm sure there is no need for any explaination. If there is such need, i should just delete it - seeing that it is dumb and no message can be sent. Excuse the plumness that is present, if you know what i mean.
Sudah fat. . .

Whooshin' off.

Wearing rings on different finger would represent:

  • Thumb: Independent, Strong.

  • Tall-Man : In love, or Engaged.
  • Ring Man (left hand) : Married! Well, some business women wear rings on ring-man of Right hand, presenting that they prefer not to marry (at the moment, maybe).

Needing a New Hairstyle.

Sunday, the first time i wore my heels outdoors - to church. Wasn't at all pleasant but oh well, i should get used to it soon.

SGH-X820: 2.0megapixels
Night scene mode

Has been some time now that i last took a picture of myself. Lol.

I noticed that i need a haircut. Felt tremendously heaty today and beads of sweat seemed to rush out of my forehead real quickly. Worst of all i forgot to bring along my scrunchy! Argh. I need a haircut!

Neh, this wouldn't suit me.

Definitely NOT this one!

(Click to enlarge pictures)Maybe one of these?? sigh. Can't decide yet.

I need a haircut! Kickin' off.

SGH-X820 : The world's slimmest cellphone.

It has been a couple of months now since i got hold of this gadget. Managed to get familiarized with it quickly as it was user friendly. It is the SGH-X820. Guess how much it is?

The Samsung SGH-X820 has an attractive, thin design and an admirable feature set that includes Bluetooth, a speakerphone, and a 2-megapixel camera. The width is merely 6.9mm.

Like sticking the phone on the screen, this is the EXACT size of it.

While the keypad buttons are user-friendly, the navigation toggle is tricky to use. It slips comfortably into pockets, and at 2.4 ounces, it won't weigh you down.

The 1.8-inch diagonal (176x220 pixel) TFT display lives up to Samsung's usual standards. With support for 262,000 colors, it's bright and vibrant and richly displays photos, games, and the user-friendly menus.

The SGH-X820 comes with a generous 1,000-contact phone book (the SIM cards holds an additional 250 names). Each entry holds four phone numbers, e-mail addresses, and notes. You can organize callers into groups and pair them with a phone and one of 20 polyphonic (64-chord) ring tones (the phone also supports MP3).

This phone is great for moderate users like me. smiles.

Tagging Bullet

(From Angelyn's short gun)
RULE1 : Each player of this game starts of with 10 weird things/habits/little known facts about yourself. People who get tagged have to write a blog of their own 10 weird things/habits/little know facts as well as state this rule clearly. At the end you need to choose 5 people to be tagged and list their names. No TAG backs!

1. Sometimes i can go really really blur, while other times i can be extremely sharp.

2. I've never eaten abalones. So you know what to do? Hehe.

3. When i try to search for a word in the dictionary, it would take me ages to do it. Why? Because i seem to stop by at every page i flip, checking out the list of words in that page.

4. I've just bought a pair of 2.5 inches heels, and they are my very first pair. Which means i've never worn high heels until this year.

5. I once dream that my parents didn't know me and i was a wanderer at the streets. I was only 3 when i dream this.

6. I have applied for braces. Sulks.

7. When i was 5, i started sleeping alone. I used to cry out loud every Saturday nights. This is because every Saturday mornings i would watch Ghost Busters; and get scared at night.

8. In primary school i stole RM50 from mum for the sake of buying a packet of paperclips. LOL. That was my first and my last theft.

9. People who backstab me, dislike me, hate me, are somehow amusing to me. Lol. Maybe it's because i admire their "witty" and "creative" thoughts that i've never come across myself. Haha.

10. I gambled with my mum only once. We used one cent, five cents and ten cents. Haha.

I tag: Evon Lee, Pui Mun, Regine, Eva, MinSze.

Graphic Design Gallery

I managed to dig out some art director's artwork in Flickr; a great site for photo sharing. There were many many finely designed works, but these are some of the pictures that took the breath outa me!

I could imagine if the reflection of the buildings were to be the modern type, it would have been even greater. But the way the designer harmonizes the colours with the setting is impressive!

This somewhat illustrates a city on the clouds. It seems more modern than the previous picture; having the futuristic feel. Another great picture. The moon probably represents mystery; though i'd prefer it better without. The birds gives a sense of being free.

Ah, this one's very imaginative! The purple and blue aura did a great job in the attraction of attention. This picture gives some sort of an impression; especially the crows and the aura. The aura seems to me to be representing goodness, whereas the crows evil. What do you think?

Glamorous! The effects were successful in enlightening the whole picture, despite the fact that the model isn't perfectly beautiful. Any simple girl could be the model for this picture as long as there is some touch of graphic editing. Lovely.

Another great photo edit. Now this picture needs skilled models and skilled photographer. Of course, not forgetting a professional graphic designer. The product of all these is a perfect picture. Smiles!

Now you know why i have chosen the path of the arts field?
It's more meaningful to show off one's artworks than the show off one's inner self.
No one can be perfect, but artworks can.

KUMON English Completion Test

Yesterday, as i have written before, i took the KUMON English Completion Test. I really really thought that i would fail since the passing marks is 70%. I thought my results would be a few steps away from the passing point.
Even if i do pass, i was quite sure that i wouldn't do well; getting only a few points above the red line.

10July08, Uncle Kenny, my KUMON instructor, called me. I was wondering why at first.
I actually have forgotten that i took the test, thus didn't expect him to talk about it.

The guy who brought the papers down all the way from KL said that the results should be out by this week, and i thought that i'd get it at the end of this week. But whad'ya know, the day was today.

The line wasn't really good so i had to run outside. My heart pounded. I could hardly give any response to him. Confirming that he could hear me, Uncle Kenny began. A couple of blah blahs and tada; the results!
I had 80% of expectation in receiving a bad news; and 20% saying that i do not have to re-sit the paper.

"Congratulations Mei Theng. You passed."

These words gave me the relieves of my forgotten worries. But the was more, and these results shocked me!

"You did very well. You scored 98%. I'm so proud of you."

WOOTS! I screamed and jumped and rolled on the floor! I couldn't help it but woke my mum from her peaceful sleep! I wanted to bang my head on the floor out of disbelief! Man!

"You scored 98%."
"You scored 98%."
"You scored 98%."
"You scored 98%."
"You scored 98%."

I am contented!

Signing off with tears of joy ;'-]

Report of TNS

What is wrong with teachers these days i wonder. They keep getting the wrong names of which is which (or rather who is who?).

Today i've encountered another name-change by my Malay Sensei. My name, Mei Theng, as you all know is a Chinese name. 'Mei' basically means beautiful, or haven't /not yet in Cantonese (i think). 'Theng' means stop(?) in Cantonese - maybe it's not but it sounds similar with the 'stop' in Cantonese.

Anyways, getting back to what irritated my poor nerves. My Malay Sensei seems to love calling one's name. No, i have no objections to that. But the problem is, she can hardly get the names right. This is the report, recorded since a few days back:

Report of TNS (Teacher's Naming Syndrome)
  1. Called Moo Yoke Mei as Mei Theng.
  2. Called Meng Foong as Mei Theng.
  3. Called out Amelia's name for over 20 times.
  4. Called Moo Yoke Mei as Mei Yoke.
  5. Called me as Mei Tong!

Evaluate with the given 'formula'

Mei = Beautiful (mandarin) / haven't / not yet (Cantonese)
Tong = barrel (Malay) / Sound of a gong (Malay)

Mei + Tong = Beautiful Barrel

Mei + Tong = Beautiful Sound of a Gong

Thus, my facetious Malay Sensei called me a Beautiful Barrel = Beautiful Sound of a Gong. WHAT THE CRAP!

I have finally done
my English KUMON completion test.
The results should be out by this week.
Pray that i'd pass.

My English Sensei 2

Today, suddenly had the inspiration. And the main character for my inspiration is Mr. Gee, once again. Claps!

As i have said before, he seem to be amusing himself with endless episodes of crap. Or is he actually trying to amuse us students? Is this what he is thinking? :

Maybe he thinks that his nonsense are also amusement to us? Maybe he thinks that it is all very interesting, soothing to the ear? Well, what ever it is, i classify those to be his points of view.

Looking at another angle, we students have another perception towards this possible cause of disintegration. Check this out :

Yes, very unpleasant indeed. Call this an impertinence as you like, i am not bothered. Amuse me, you critics!
